BHUTTĀ BHOGĀ BHAṬĀ BHACCĀ VITIṆṆĀ ĀPADĀSU ME
UDDHAGGĀ DAKKHIṆĀ DINNĀ ATHO PAÑCA BALĪ KATĀ
我辛勞如法所得之財物已被妥善享用 (1)令父母妻兒奴僕快樂、(2)令朋友同伴快樂、(3)當遇災害(水火天災、王賊、敵人、不肖繼承者)時,財物得以防護。(4)做崇高的供養,以及五種獻供(向親族、客人、先亡、國王、天神之獻供)(5)護持供養具有戒德、自制之梵行者。
My wealth has been enjoyed. My dependent supported, protected from calamities (fire and water, kings, and robbers, enemies and heirs) by me. I have given lofty offerings and performed the five oblations (filial piety, care of family, care of those dependent on me, duty to the country, offerings to Sāngha)
UPAṬṬHITĀ SĪLAVANTO, SAÑÑATĀ BRAHMACĀRINO,
YADATTHAṀ BHOGAMICCHEYYA, PAṆḌITO, GHARAMĀVASAṀ,
SO ME ATTHO ANUPPATTO, KATAṀ ANANUTĀPIYAṀ,
賢明居士所欲求之財富,我已如願。
I have provided for the virtuous, the restrained, leaders of the holy life. For whatever aim a wise householder would wish, that aim I have attained. I have done what will not lead to future distress.
ETAṂ ANUSSARAṀ MACCO ARIYADHAMME ṬHITO NARO,
IDHEVA NAṀ PASAṂSANTI PECCA SAGGE PAMODATĪTI.
在此經中,佛陀說:「如果有人行持這五項事情,但財富卻損失,他會思維:雖然我的財富減少,但至少我己做了這五因。因此他不會難過;相反的,若他財富增加,他會思維:果然,做了這五因我的財富真的增加了。因此,不論結局如何,他都不會難過愧疚。(增支部,五集。41)」
When this is recollected by a mortal, a person established in the Dhamma of the Noble Ones, He is praised in this life and, after death, rejoices in heaven.

此偈頌是在生日時誦念以提醒行善的重要性。
在佛陀即將成道時,被魔羅大軍前來擾亂、嘲諷、誘惑以阻止佛陀成道。佛陀喚起了經過萬劫所累積的波羅蜜的力量,以大地母親為證於他所宣稱的。大地母親應運而生,淹沒了河流,而洶湧的水流席捲而來,沖走了魔羅大軍。佛陀繼而尋求戰勝一切痛苦之道,最終證得涅槃。
此偈頌提醒世人“遠離邪惡(止惡)、行善、淨化心靈“的好處。
行善積德的例子:照顧父母,尤其是當他們年邁體弱多病時、照顧家人、家屬、員工和僱員、盡公民義務向政府交稅為社會和國家貢獻、念誦經文和偈頌、禪修以淨化心靈、參與一年一度的上部座大藏經誦經活動、朝聖、供僧、幫助有需要的人減輕他們的痛苦等等。
回顧過往的善行、慈善和功德會讓行善者帶來愉悅和安寧。這種反思,尤其是在臨終前,可以幫助安定心智,讓心專注於善念,有助於輪迴轉世至更高的境界。因此,生日時念誦此偈頌,提醒我們有生必有死,在生日時好好反思,為死亡做好準備。
時常反思佛、法、僧的崇高功德也是良好的修行法之一。
